OUTSIDE HOURS
Print and complete this outside hours form for service hours obtained outside of the club and submit it in the NHS box in Room 532 (Steverson) This sheet must be submitted within 1 week of the date of service. Please refer to the list below if you are unsure if your outside activity counts.
What IS Community Service?

- Community-based Activities -Working as a blood drive volunteer, participating in a Relay for Life, volunteering at a hospital, serving as a Big Brother/Big Sister, cleaning up parks or roadsides, ringing a bell for the Salvation Army, assisting senior citizens with house/yardwork.
- School Activities - Volunteering at open house, gathering and sorting items for a food drive, working at an elementary school fair/book fair, serving as an unpaid tutor, reading to elementary students, assisting teachers with clerical-related activities (unpaid --not peer leading), volunteering at school-based sporting events
- Church-related Activities - Babysitting during church services, volunteering at Vacation Bible School, attending mission trips, helping set up for services or performances, etc.
What is NOT community Service?

- Fine Arts Examples - Band/Orchestra/Choir/Drama/Theater students may not count hours where they receive credit within their respective organization; members of a production may not count hours for that production.
- Class Officer Examples - Officers performing duties that are required for their position.
- Sports Examples - Basketball players coaching other young players, keeping time during a game, or helping at camps; varsity players working JV games/events and vice versa.
- Tutoring Examples - Tutoring sessions that are not arranged through a teacher at DHS or NHS will not count towards hours; written verification from a teacher is required.
- Family Examples - Babysitting your siblings or other family members, doing chores or yardwork around your house or for your family, etc.
- Participating in performances of any kind does not count toward volunteer hours, with the exception of international night. Performances include, but are not limited to band concerts, leading worship at church, acting in plays, etc.
